In the past year, from April 22, 2013 to April 22, 2014, many retailers in the United States including Ace Hardware, Best Buy, Home Depot, etc. have participated in this challenge. They promote Energy Star LED bulbs in letters, on their website, and in-store displays to help consumers understand its multiple benefits. In addition, purchase subsidies also make these light bulbs more price-competitive and in line with the choices of ordinary consumers. Although reported sales have reached 20 million units, the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that total sales of Energy Star LED bulbs last year exceeded 45 million units.
Many retailers prioritize promoting Energy Star LED bulbs because they want to give consumers an excellent lighting experience. A government-backed certification, the Energy Star label indicates that a light bulb has been independently certified, undergone numerous tests to ensure performance, achieves high brightness and matches the light distribution of conventional light bulbs.
What we must understand is that compared with incandescent lamps of the same light efficiency, Energy Star LED bulbs save 70%-90% of energy consumption and extend their service life by 25 times. A single ENERGY STAR certified light bulb can save $40-$135 in electricity costs over its lifetime.
